At IT Masters, your prior learning and experience can help you get closer to your postgraduate goals faster — and for less. With flexible credit options, you could reduce the number of subjects you need to complete, save time and tuition fees.

What Is Credit (RPL) and Why It Matters

Credit, or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), is all about acknowledging what you already know. Whether it’s past studies, professional certifications, or industry experience, you may be able to skip certain subjects, letting you:

  • Graduate sooner
  • Save on course fees
  • Focus on learning new skills, not repeating old ones

Credit can be applied at the point of admission or during your studies via the Student Portal, giving you flexibility no matter when you earn new qualifications. (Learn more)

Four Ways to Earn Credit / Save time

  1. Industry Certifications

Completed certifications from vendors like Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, or AWS? IT Masters recognises over 200 certifications from nearly 50 vendors. Use the Credit Finder to see how your certifications could save you time and fees.

  2. Postgraduate Studies

If you’ve already studied a postgraduate subject elsewhere, you may qualify for credit if it aligns with IT Masters’ subjects (minimum 80% match) and was completed in the last 10 years. This can help you finish faster and reduce tuition costs.

  3. ACS Certifications

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) offers certifications that may grant up to two subjects’ worth of credit. No exams or extra study needed — just recognition for your existing skills.

  4. Free Short Courses

Want a taste of postgraduate learning without committing? IT Masters offers free online short courses based on topics from its postgraduate programs. Complete three or more courses and you could earn one elective subject credit toward your degree — a smart way to save time and money.

How to Apply for Credit

  • Before enrolment – submit your claim during your application.
  • After enrolment – submit a claim through your Student Portal.
