We know that you have been asking and waiting for a while now, so starting in late August, IT Masters is proud to offer the first two AI subjects created by our mentors. The new subjects will have a concerted focus on applying AI in the real world, like all ITM subjects.

They are:

ITE537 – Intro to AI for Business

Created and taught by Iain Robertson

This intro subject is just what it says on the tin – an all round course on AI fundamentals for people who need to deploy, use or operate with AI in their workplace. You can read more about it here on the CSU website. There are no prerequisites for this subject, nor do you need any AI experience/knowledge.

ITE537 provides students with a strong foundation in the principles and practical applications of artificial intelligence. Throughout this subject, students will gain the ability to articulate the core concepts of AI, including its common benefits and potential drawbacks in various contexts. They will learn to assess the feasibility of integrating AI into diverse projects, understanding both technical and strategic considerations. This subject is designed for IT literate users who need to understand and deploy AI effectively in their organisation, but do not need to program and build a full AI system from first principles.

ITE538 – AI and Cybersecurity

Created and taught by Dr Georg Thomas

Again, the clue is in the name, this course examines the impact of AI on cybersecurity. While there are no formal requirements, this really is for students with some cyber experience and/or having completed at least ITI581 Cyber Security Fundamentals. The subject details are here.

ITE538 examines the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and cybersecurity within contemporary business environments. Students analyse security threats both posed by AI/ML systems and directed at those systems, including adversarial attacks, data compromise and misuse. The subject develops practical capability in mitigating risks arising from authorised and unauthorised AI/ML usage, implementing governance controls, and protecting AI-enabled business processes.

How do I enrol in these subjects?

Both subjects are available for enrolment now in term 3 202675 commencing in August and session 3 202690 kicking off in November.

These subjects will become part of our dedicated AI courses and streams in the near future, and for now you can access them in a number of ways. The first thing to do might be a call or email to your course advisor or our admissions team: they will help you work through the best ways to access these subjects, or you can simply enrol in them online if you want to add them to an existing course, and send us an email so we can help to organise approvals where necessary.

These are the pathways open now for enrolment:

  • As part of your Cyber Security stream. They will be available as Group B electives very soon, and in the meantime we will seek approval to include them if you wish to enrol asap.
Note: variations will be approved on a case by case basis.

  • As part of the Grad Cert in Computing (Career Transition) with approval as above and then as Group B electives.
  • As part of your MBA (Computing) program again with approval as above, and later to be available as electives.
  • As single subject study! Yes, you can simply apply to enrol in these as a single subject without an accompanying degree course. IT Masters have made available a number of our subjects on this basis starting in Term 3 as well. If you choose this option, you can later add these subjects towards a Grad Cert/Dip/Masters (e.g. one of our planned new AI courses or cybersecurity) when you are ready to do more. You can access single study applications direct on the CSU site here
  • With approval in other IT Masters post graduate course. Those listed above will have these subjects included as electives asap. We will add them to other offers if that is what our students want, and in the meantime, we will help you request permission from your course director on a case by case basis.

Want more?

We can’t yet tell you more just yet about what is coming, but we do expect to offer at least one post graduate AI and business focused course in the near future – watch this space! That’s in addition to adding these (and other) new AI subjects to our existing courses where applicable. We are thankful to all the team at Charles Sturt University for helping us get these to you as quickly as possible and fast tracking our plans!

We hope that you enjoy these new subjects and the courses they roll into. We are excitedly looking forward to all our future subjects and courses ahead.
