Taken from MGI515, this topic will introduce the core principles of ITIL 4®. We will explore the fundamental ideas used in the various methods of IT service management. The theory of “value” is at the core of IT service delivery and has redefined the role of our traditional IT department in the modern organisation.

Taken from MGI512 and ITE518, this topic will explore the specific elements of IT project management at the small and large scale. We will touch on SCRUM but will focus more on how to scale that up with the SAFe® framework for bigger projects. The PRINCE2® framework will also be covered to show how technology projects can easily integrate with traditional non-IT project methodology and thinking.

Taken from MGI530 and is now based on the IIBA® framework known as the BABOK®. This extensive methodology covers the processes, planning and thinking needed to understand the needs of the organisation that technology is expected to fulfil. Modern BA functions are a crucial success factor in any new technology investment. They synergise with IT projects and strategy, as well as the tactical functions of IT service delivery.

Finally, we explore MGI516 where the hopes and dreams of broad organisational strategy meets the harsh realities of IT delivery. Governance is about the relationship between the highest-level strategic decisions and the deeper IT-related decisions that make it all work. Governance is as much about empowering IT as it is about limiting – ensuring efforts and outcomes match the goals.

What is the aim of this short course?

The aim of the short course is to give you a ‘taster’ of what it is like to undertake postgraduate study via online learning with Charles Sturt University. It offers a glimpse of four related IT disciplines from a leadership perspective. The short course is based on several subjects including MGI515, MGI512, ITE518, MGI530 and MGI516. These subjects are in the Master of Business Administration (Computing) and/or CSU’s Master of Information Technology.
