This page provides information on what subject credits are available for the MBA (Computing) with Specialisations, available for enrolment from 2020.
IT Masters and CSU work to ensure that students receive as much recognition for their studies and knowledge as is possible. A maximum of 50% credit can be given for any course’s subjects (due to Australian government regulations). Credit can be given on the basis of:
- Post Graduate Study
This is assessed on application – when you apply you will need to provide detailed information on your previous study. Completed subjects just need to match at least 80% of the content of the subject you are applying for credit for and completed in the last 10 years.
- Free Short Courses
Successful completion of 3 relevant IT Masters short courses will give you one subject credit for an elective subject. Please contact our administration team to find out if you are eligible.
- Credit for Experience
The Australian Computer Society (ACS) offer certifications based on your existing IT work experience. These certifications can count as credit for IT Masters elective subjects.
- For 2 subjects of credit: ACS Certified Professional OR ACS Certified Cyber Security Professional
- For 1 subject of credit: ACS Certified Technologist OR ACS Certified Cyber Security Technologist
The maximum possible credits for ACS certifications towards the Masters is 2. As there is only one industry elective subject on the Graduate Certificate only credit can be awarded, but the further credit can be awarded on moving to the Masters. Read more here.
- Industry Certifications
IT Masters and CSU recognise a large range of relevant industry certifications for credit – check the tables below for the most common certifications, or complete our eligibility form for a personalised assessment.
If you’ve earned an industry certification that is listed below but not assigned to a subject, we can likely award credit for it, but will need to assess how your certifications fit with the subjects you want to study. Fill out an eligibility form to help find the best way to get the credit you’re after and meet your study objectives.
Credits Available for Core Subjects
SUBJECT CREDITED | CREDIT REQUIREMENTS |
MGI515 IT Service Quality Management | Both APMG + AXELOS ISO 20000 Practitioner and ITIL Foundation Certificate 4 |
MGI516 IT Governance |

Industry Elective Subjects (known as “Group B”) – students will have either:
- four (4) subjects/credits from the same specialisation. This will allow graduation with a particular specialisation – e.g. Master of Business Administration (Computing – Cyber Security); OR
- four (4) subjects/credits across multiple specialisations. This will allow graduation with a generic Master of Business Administration (Computing)
Below you will find the credit information for each specialisation. These are split up into:
- Certifications that give you credit for a specific subject (where they map directly to a subject we deliver), and
- Certifications which do not map to a specific subject (called “unspecified industry elective” credits).
Some industry certifications for these “unspecified” credits require more study and demonstration of knowledge and therefore offer more credit. i.e. a “Level 1” certification gives you credit for 1 subject, “Level 2” = 2 subjects’ credit, and “Level 3” = 3 subjects’ credit.
