Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

Aims:

The aim of this course is to prepare students to succeed in management positions that leverage computing technology to operate and expand business endeavours. The course will provide educational opportunities to information professionals for the 21st century, as the world moves from an economy of stand-alone companies to interdependent enterprises connected by the products of a global information infrastructure. The needs of existing IT managers, programmers, developers, network engineers, and other IT workers who aspire to move upward into technical management positions will be catered to with the emphasis on exploiting information technologies for productivity and competitiveness.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

  • An informed and reflexive perspective on management;
  • Certification as an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle’s certification for those that manage critical database functions and work on mission-critical projects. an informed and reflexive perspective on the issues associated with computer Databases;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, a range of key management related principles and practices (principally those associated with: general management; change management; strategic management; Human Resource Management; Finance; and Marketing);
  • Advanced skills in the development of computer systems or the design, implementation and management of networks;
  • Higher order system administration knowledge and skills;
  • Problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting and documenting complex computing problems;
  • The ability to analyse complex client business and technical requirements and select appropriate solutions, and
  • Skills in the development of leading edge solutions that meets customer business objectives for functionality and performance.

Course Structure:

The Course consists of 12 subjects with a total value of 96 points.
For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Masters Degree is 2 years. There are 3 sessions per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per session.

Important Note regarding Oracle Certification Subjects:

The Oracle Industry Certification Subjects are only available for credit and are not available for study via Distance education with Charles Sturt University.  Credit for Oracle industry certification subjects will be awarded on proof that the students have passed the relevant Oracle industry certification exams.  It is recommended that students prepare for the Oracle industry exams by attending courses at Oracle - Click here for details about costs and course schedules.

Oracle OCP Hands-On Course Requirement:

In order to obtain the Oracle Database OCP credential, Oracle requires that all candidates must attend one instructor-led inClass or instructor-led online course from the approved list of Oracle University courses and submit the Oracle OCP Hands-On Course Requirement Form.  

Note: Each industry elective stream is normally studied as a complete and discrete unit. However, where a student wishes to develop knowledge and skills across technology areas they may, with the permission of the Course Coordinator, choose subjects from more than one stream.

Credit:

Academic credit is available to students who can provide proof that they have passed relevant industry examinations. Prospective students can obtain an estimate of credit entitlements by filling out the Request more Information form.

NOTE: The actual level of credit awarded will be confirmed upon acceptance into the Degree.
